The papers include medical notes, drawings, patient lists, transcripts and copies of correspondence, photocopied pictures of Hunt in uniform, and a two-tablespoon measuring cup used for medicinal purposes and stored in wooden case. They document both his education and his military service during the Civil War. His medical notebook reflects period thinking about symptoms, diagnosis, prognosis, and prescribed treatment for conditions such as erysipelas, pulmonary apoplexy and hemorrhage, pneumonia, pleurisy, poisoned wounds, insect bites, bone fractures, chronic gastritis, etc.
